Guidance on Engaging with People of Different Beliefs
In addressing the challenge of engaging with individuals of diverse faiths or those preoccupied with materialistic aspects of life, it is essential to adopt the approach of the Holy Quran and the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). Remind them of the blessings bestowed upon them by Allah. Ask them to consider who created them, who provides the air they breathe, and who sustains the intricate organs within their bodies since they were embryos in their mothers' wombs.
Highlight the daily miracles, such as the sun rising and setting, and the health and faculties they possess. This acknowledgment of a Creator is often a common ground, as many inherently recognize a higher power responsible for the universe. From there, emphasize the importance of gratitude towards this Creator, drawing parallels with how one would thank a person who has done them a significant favor.
Discuss the purpose of life, suggesting that it is inconceivable for a wise Creator to have created the heavens and the earth without a purpose. Use Quranic verses to illustrate that life is not without meaning and that there is accountability in the hereafter. Encourage them to consider the guidance of prophets and the wisdom found in revealed scriptures.
Address the beauty and consistency of the Quran, a book unchanged for over 1400 years, whose teachings are in harmony with modern science and devoid of contradictions. Urge them to read the Quran, to feel its beauty and the peace it brings to the heart.
Explain the role of religion in society, contrasting the moral decline in communities that have abandoned divine guidance with the purity and social cohesion found in societies adhering to religious teachings. Mention how Islamic teachings have led to acts of charity, family cohesion, and ethical behavior.
Finally, confront the reality of death and the afterlife, challenging them to prepare for what comes after this life. Stress that true happiness is not found in transient material pleasures but in the contentment of the soul achieved through worship and remembrance of Allah. Share testimonies of those who have found true peace and fulfillment in embracing Islam, and invite them to seek the eternal joy that comes from a life devoted to their Creator.
